Letters to the Editor

On a Tear
I've been a subscriber of Convene for several years. Our national office moved to Ohio some months ago. I continued to receive your publication at our previous box number. I must admit, in the past, I haven't always read through the entire magazine. I would scan it and if an article caught my eye I would read it.

When the May issue arrived, I began to read the article "Flags of Our Fathers" and tore it out to read later. I went a bit further and thought the "Synthesizing, Composing, Design" article looked great! I tore it out, too. Then, I glanced at the "Certifiable Service" piece and tore it out.

Then I said to myself, "Why am I tearing these out?" I decided to read the entire issue.

I also decided to write and let you know what an outstanding issue it was and to give you my new address so I will continue to receive future issues.

The Flip Side of Challenge
Thank you for covering the challenges that the destination marketing industry faces in your May issue. Association for Convention Operations Management (ACOM) members (mostly convention service managers working at CVBs) share similar concerns as the members of Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI). We actively encourage [our members to think] exactly like Mary Ridderman of the Kalamazoo County CVB, who was quoted in your article as saying "times like this force change and people to think outside the box to reach for bigger and better opportunities."

As we all strive to adjust to the changes mentioned in the article, it's important not to lose sight of these challenges as opportunities for the meetings industry to flourish overall.
