Lifelong learning is the key to career advancement and can be accomplished in many ways, such as membership in an industry-related organization such as PCMA.  PCMA offers many educational opportunities to members such as local educational sessions, yearly meetings, and online learning opportunities.  Higher education, such as a master's degree, can provide an excellent opportunity for career career advancement.  Another way to signify academic achievement is by participating in an industry designation program such as CASE.

Advancing your career requires staying on top of what's happening in the industry. Joining a related association can be a great way to do stay on top of things, but also staying "in the know" about what's happening in other associations. Different associations have access to different information which can make you well-rounded in your knowledge of the industry. Keeping up with research and reading different publications are great ways to keep on top of changes and happenings.

Perhaps now more than ever, networking is an important thing to do at any stage of a career. Being involved in a membership-based organization, volunteering at events, and participating in online networking sites are great ways to meet and keep in touch with other industry professionals.
