In the wake of Hurricane Gustav, hotels that had closed their doors in New Orleans on Aug. 31 in accordance with a citywide mandatory evacuation order are reopening this week, most of them breathing a big sigh of relief. Among them are sister properties The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans, and the nearby Iberville Suites, which announced this week that they will reopen today.

A June 2008 Prospectiv survey revealed that online travelers could be enticed to spend more on travel if offered promotions, such as rebates on gas expenses. In response, many hotels have been giving out gas rebate cards at higher amounts than ever before—$50, $100 or even $200 per trip.
